You're a Soccer coach?
I have been involved in the soccer community for over 20 years. It has allowed me to network with a wonderful group of friends with many of the same goals and desires for the game, as well as life. I played for many of those twenty years, which has helped to keep me in shape. Now that I have kids, I have made the transition to coach. It's allowed me to not only instruct them in the game of soccer, but to help build some of life's skills, such as team building and goal setting.
How does goal setting affect your daily life?
It seems that I am always setting goals and working towards them! One, I always strive to be a better wife and mom. We try and reevaluate our family unit, and each of us tries and works on ways to better ourselves. Another personal goal is to eventually get back into the teaching field. I do substitute periodically, but someday soon, I'd like to have my own classroom again. Also, an important goal for me is to not only stay physically active, but to maintain my faith as well.
So you were a teacher at one point?
Actually, I began my teaching career in Colorado back in 1993. I taught 2nd graders for a few years, and then my husband Todd and I got married and moved to Florida in 1997. I taught fourth graders for a number of years here in Jacksonville. Currently, since my girls are now in school, I work part-time in the Mother's Morning Out program at St. Paul's Catholic at the beach. I am also homeroom mom for Allie's class, and I try and help with other school activities as well. I also teach religious education on Wednesday evenings.
Who inspires you?
Throughout my life, both of my parents have been an inspiration to me. Both have been very active and are turning 60 this year. My dad plans on running his first marathon in Hawaii this December, and my mom plays golf and works out regularly. My husband and girls are also an inspiration to me. All three keep me busy and challenge me everyday to be a better person.
Soccer has to keep you fit, any other secrets?
I work out at the gym five days a week, but I can't lie. I love junk food! However, I try to keep that in moderation too. |
