How did you get into running?

I’ve been running since I was 12. I did cross country and track in middle and high school and two years cross country in college. I love it. It’s my time to get away, by myself and you feel good afterwards. It’s a stress reliever. I feel good when I’m exercising and it makes me feel better throughout the whole week. I’m training for a marathon right now. How do you prepare for a marathon?

I run 7-20 miles a day at least five days a week at 4:30 a.m. I’m running a race next month called the Radnar Relay, 191 mile race across the state, from Clearwater to Daytona Beach. I’m running with a team from Jacksonville and we divide it up, so I only end up doing 17 miles of it. I’m just doing this for fun and to help me train for the Disney Marathon in January.

What does your husband do? My husband, Ed, is a Navy helicopter pilot. He flies a random schedule right now and deploys in the Fall. I was in the Navy for six years as a surface warfare officer, but I got out last year. It was just too hard to manage both of our routines and have a child.

How does your husband help you?

He’s not a big runner, but he’s very supportive of me running because he knows it’s important to me. He really helps me out with Caroline when I go on my long runs on the weekends. That’s why I try to run so early, so I am usually home by the time she wakes up, so I don’t feel like I miss out on my day with her. Typical workout routine?

I run a regular run on Tuesdays and Fridays and Sundays I do a long run, which is between 16-20 miles. On Thursday mornings I do a speed work out, which is a little bit faster than my usual runs.

What local races have you run?

I ran the Carrabba's Beach Run, Run for the Pies, Outback 1/2 Marathon, Marine Corps 1/2 Marathon, Navy Run 10k and CitiStreet Corporate 5k.

What are some of your goals?

I just want to beat my personal record which is 3:19. That’s my goal. I used to do triathlons, but I don’t really do them anymore. I just find it better to concentrate on one area because I’m not that good at the swimming and biking. I’m hoping to run the Boston Marathon. It’s like the one race that every runner just has to run. I'm also finishing up my MBA from the University of Florida and plan on graduating in April! What else do you do to keep in shape?

I cross train by riding my road bike. I stay in shape by eating small snacks throughout the day and not letting myself get too hungry. It’s easy when you are running that much to want to eat a lot.
