Jan 7 - symphony Art Walk
Art Walk with the Symphony continues on Wednesday, January 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium with a solo performance by JSO Principal Trombonist Jeffrey Peterson, accompanied by Ileana Fernandez, JSO Principal Keyboardist. Jeff will give a preview “Concerto Borealis,” which he performs with the JSO on the January 9 Discovery and Coffee Concerts. The event also features virtuoso solo showpieces and new works played by JSO violinist Piotr Szewczyk, winner of the Fresh Ink 2008 Florida Composers’ Competition. He will be accompanied by pianist, Christine Clark.

Players By the Sea - Along with Hamlet, King Lear, and Macbeth, Othello is one of Shakespeare’s four great tragedies - Othello is set in a private world and focuses on the passions and personal lives of its major figures. Indeed, it has often been described as a “tragedy of characters” Othello’s swift descent into jealousy and rage and Lago's dazzling display of villainy have long fascinated students and critics of the play for years.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – Pay tribute to the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as MOSH remembers this important Civil Rights pioneer. Activities, appropriate for elementary-school aged children, will include creating a dream quilt, and developing a timeline of Dr. King’s life. Water Education Festival – MOSH has teamed up with the City of Jacksonville’s Environmental Protection Board and the St. Johns River Water Management District to present interactive displays, activities, and live performances. Learn about water conservation and more on this FREE ADMISSION day between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Feb 12 - MOSH
MOSH’s human body exhibit (name TBD) Opens – MOSH’s newest permanent exhibit, sponsored by Baptist Health, opens this February. This grand exhibit features a realistic, yet humorous, look at the human body. As visitors enter the mouth, they will see the skeletal system overhead, and organs and body systems below. They will also be able to see how various organs, such as the heart, function within the body. Visitors will leave through the exhibit with a deeper understanding of the human body.

Bella Luna: Dessert Under the Stars – The stars will be in your eyes this Valentines Day at MOSH’s second annual “Bella Luna: Dessert Under the Stars” event from 7-10 p.m. Enjoy the view of the downtown skyline from MOSH’s rooftop, then gaze up at the stars, the moon, and even Mars through MOSH’s 20-inch-lens telescope!
